The Third Blog: Renaissance Sunset

So, I was on my way home from school the other day (actually last Monday) and was absolutely loving the sunset over the river. For some reason though, I missed not one, but 3 entrances to the Riverside parking lots. I didn't want to turn around so I was just going to go home and forget about the photos. But then I hit Alexander Park and figured, why not?! So I pulled in, left the car running (because it was freezing out), hopped out and started snapping some shots. I was too far down to get the shot I was really hoping for...of the Sun beneath the bridge...but I got some great colour gradation. I took some shots facing both ways (West toward the sunset and East away from it). I was compelled to include the bottom two shots of both sides because of the light refraction differences. Anyone who studies light composition, or Physics knows the way the Sunlight bends around the earth creates the different colours we see in the sky. Therefore, since the sun was so far West, the East side of the River appeared violet, and the west side was Red-Orange-Yellow (ROYGBIV). I did enhance the colour a little with photoshop to bring out the contrast. I was pleased with a few of the photos I took, considering the amount of time I was actually down there. It's also worth mentioning (for the zero people that will read this), that I met a friend down there. His name was Neil. He was riding his bike by, and stopped to introduce himself. Apparently we share the passion of photography as he said he had been shooting birds down on the East end (photographically of course) earlier in the day.

As for the above shot, I tried to frame the Renaissance Center within the railing, but I was too far down to get it in there. I still like the framing effect anyways though. I hope you enjoy it too. The Second Blog: Misty Mornings

Misty Mornings

I literally shot this photo from my car window while driving down Riverside Drive in East Windsor, ON. It wasn't nearly straight, and was also a lot larger than this, but when I straightened the horizon I had to crop a lot of it. I think I was quite lucky to get this shot considering the circumstances...just driving down the road, I reached into my school bag, whipped out the camera, rolled down the window and snapped a couple shots. I try to have my camera with me at all times, in case of such a situation where the sky is beautiful, there is some other interesting subjects in the environment, or the fog makes for an interesting horizon. I have to say that I love looking at the Detroit Skyline (from Canada), and the fog helped a lot (which is not always the case). Even though the scene doesn't change much, I always say that weather makes half of your photo...with land/sea scapes at least. The bottom photo is a darkened version of the above. I am not sure which of the two I like best, but if you have any input / ideas let me know.

Hopefully I can get some more interesting shots sometime soon. Since I don't always have the time to go out on photography shoots, I have to take advantage of spur of the moment impulses I get to take photos of something I find interesting for 5 minutes or so.
